As we slowly emerge from the pandemic of the last 2 years, I am pleased to inform you that the APAO 2023 Congress is due to go ahead as a full face to face conference at the acclaimed Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre next to the world famous Petronas Twin Towers. Malaysia is no stranger to hosting major international Ophthalmology conferences and we welcome you once again to our beautiful country for a long overdue full congress of the APAO. Our theme for this conference is “Reconnect and Collaborate” and I think that this is apt as we have been disconnected from each other for far too long.
Malaysia has fully opened its international borders on 1 April 2022 and is committed to hosting our international delegates in a safe and conducive matter with focus on ensuring the biological safety of our visitors. International flights from around the world to Malaysia are expected to increase in frequency in the coming months and I anticipate very few restrictions for fully vaccinated visitors to Malaysia.
The planning of the scientific and social program of the APAO Congress has already begun in full swing and all the ophthalmologists in Malaysia look forward to seeing you in February 2023. Please mark the dates in your diary for what promises to be an academically stimulating conference with lots of exciting social events and local tourism attractions for you and your families.

It is a great pleasure and honor to invite you to the 38th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 26 February 2023. While we regret that the COVID pandemic prevented us from holding a physical conference in 2021, we are excited about re-visiting Malaysia and the event would be co-hosted by the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology.
This is the third time that we have the Congress in Kuala Lumpur. The meetings in 1987 and 2005 have been great successes and each time, Kuala Lumpur managed to amaze us. I believe that Kuala Lumpur holds new surprises for us for the APAO 2023 Congress.
APAO Congress 2023 will be held under the theme of “Reconnect and Collaborate”. Even if we are physically apart, we are still together as a community, connected by a shared passion for phasing out preventable blindness worldwide and for the best outcomes for our patients. I am sure there will be many new and exciting collaborations emerging from this meeting when we reconnect. Delegates from around the world are expected to actively participate, and share findings and knowledge as always.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the gallant organizing committee for making APAO Congress 2023 possible and a pleasurable and inspiring experience. I wish you all great enjoyment and a wonderful stay in Malaysia.

It is with great honor and pleasure that I welcome you to the 38th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
The Scientific Program Committee has developed an outstanding program for the APAO 2023 Congress. The program contains superlative contributions from the leading ophthalmologists around the world who serve as chairs, moderators, speakers and coordinators.
Our annual scientific congress of ophthalmology is home to ophthalmological professionals and industrial partners, and the place to share expertise and experience. Under the theme of “Reconnect and Collaborate” , the APAO 2023 Congress is expected to feature more than 500 internationally renowned speakers presenting the latest discoveries and ideas in 16 ophthalmic subspecialties, including clinical ophthalmology and visual sciences.
The resumption of this face-to-face conference will foster interaction in several innovative ways and encourage dialogue through plenary sessions, free paper presentation, poster sessions, keynote lectures and video sessions.
